The NAB North Queensland Law Association Conference 2013
We are pleased to be hosting the NAB North Queensland Law Association 2013 on 24 and 25 May 2013 at Rydges Southbank, Townsville.
The conference will cover 3 streams: commercial law, family law, and litigation and for the first time has been endorsed by the Bar Association of Queensland to provide barristers with 10 CPD points (including the compulsory CPD subjects).
Highlights of the conference include:
- The Honourable Justice Susan Kiefel AC of the High Court of Australia presenting the 2013 James Cook University Mayo Lecture: ‘Social Justice and the Constitution – freedoms and protections’.
- The Queensland Anti-Discrimination Commissioner, Mr Kevin Cocks presenting a paper on diversity and equality in the workplace;
- Mr Edmund Bon Tai Soon presenting an intimate account of the Malaysian Rights Project;
- Hearing first hand from members of the local judiciary: The Honourable Justices Peter Tree and Colin Forrest of the Family Court of Australia, The Honourable Justices David North and James Henry of the Supreme Court of Queensland, Their Honours Judges Stuart Durward and Michael Rackemann of the District Court of Queensland; and
- Live music, drinks and canapés at the ‘Sunset Drinks by the River’ on the Friday evening.Â

MLSQ Working with WorkCover
The Medico-Legal Society of Queensland’s biennial workshop, Working With WorkCover, is being held on Saturday afternoon, 11 May 2013, at the Evan & Mary Thomson Auditorium, Wesley Hospital. Attached is the invitation outlining all pertinent details.
This pragmatic and interactive workshop is focused on preparing evidence to aid the Q-Comp Tribunals decision-making process. Doctors who attend will gain “hands-on” pointers for improving medico-legal reports. Solicitors and barristers will benefit from practical tips about preparing and presenting evidence.
Q-Comp CEO, Elizabeth Woods, will discuss the review of the Queensland Workers Compensation Scheme Inquiry
Experienced Q-Comp Tribunal Members, Dr Jennifer Gunn and Dr John North will join Barrister, Andrew Kitchin, to pass on practical points
Janine Reid will provide WorkCover Queensland’s Perspective
Finally, Society members will have the opportunity to ask questions during the facilitated panel session.
